WHAT IS THE TZOLKIN CALENDAR?

Tzolkin is the Yucatecan name of the Sacred Mayan calendar, one of the 17 calendars the Mayans used simultaneously. Nowadays, there are two versions being followed: the traditional count called Cholq’ij kept by the Mayan elders or Day Keepers of Highland Guatemala (Quiche tradition) and the modern count known as the Dreamspell, which is the base of Jose Argüelles visionary work of Natural Time 13:20 frequency. For the time being, the information I share on my blog and website are based on the modern version. For the last 14 years, I’ve found it to be a very valuable and practical tool for conscious evolution, while bringing ancient wisdom to modern times.

In both cases, the Tzolkin calendar contains 260 days as a result of the combination of 20 energies (Mayan glyphs, Mayan signs, Mayan Suns, Solar Seals, or Nawals) by 13 numbers (Lunar Tones or Tones of Creation). The energies can be understood as archetypes of human behavior and the tones as actions that follow a specific sequence that help us to manifest our intentions in the 3D world.

The Tzolkin cycle of 260 days is divided in 20 Wavespells (Trecenas in their original name) of 13 days each and 5 Castles of 52 days each. As an analogy, a Wavespell can be considered as a ‘week’ and a Castle as a ‘month’. The underlying theme for each period of 13 days is determined by the first day of that ‘week’. Each day is called Kin and has an energetic imprint.

In this new cycle that starts today, I will be sharing with you the underlying theme for the next 13 days, including the energy name in its modern version and the original one in Yucatecan. The current Wavespell that gives birth to this cycle is called Red Dragon or Imix.

If, in addition to the Wavespell, you want to get in tune with the energy of each day, you will find this information available on my website. The Daily Tzolkin will show you on the right column under the images (oracle of the day) a brief message to connect with the daily energy and follow the cycle. To see how it personally relates with you, you can check your sign or energy of birth by putting your date of birth in ‘Select Another Date’. And, if you want to play with it further, you can click on ‘Guidelines’ (button with green letters on the top right corner) for additional information.

Following the Tzolkin Cycle
October 31, 2013 to July 17, 2014

This document contains the energies and dates for the upcoming 260 days. To follow it, start on the top left corner (31 Oct) and move down one cell a day until you get to the bottom of the column (19 Nov). Continue afterwards on top of the second column (20 Nov) and keep going daily until you get to the end (9 Dec), and so on. If you have an important upcoming event, you can check the energy for that day on this matrix, known as the Harmonic Module. As a reference, you will find a brief description for the energy at the end of each line (on the right side) so you know what the main focus for that day is.

In Lak’esh means “I am another yourself!”, a Mayan greeting that recognizes the Divine in each living Being. It’s a message of Unity that reminds us that, when we give, we are also receiving. In this way, the Mayan honored and respected each other, reinforcing the belief that we are all interconnected: what we do to others and to our environment will also affect ourselves in the end…

Munay means both ‘Love’ and ‘Beauty’ in Quechua, the language of the Incas. Munay, translated as ‘To love’, is one of the three principles of the Andean way.
