Person of the Year – Pope Francis

Ten days ago, TIME magazine named Pope Francis as the ‘Person of the Year’ for 2013.

The former Archbishop of Buenos Aires and Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio was elected as the 266th Pope of the Catholic Church on March 13, 2013 after the resignation of his predecessor Pope Benedict XVI in February. Bergoglio chose the name of Francis honoring Saint Francis of Assisi for his dedication to the poor. He is the first Jesuit Pope, first American Pope, first Pope from the South Hemisphere and first non-European Pope since Pope Gregory III in the 8th century.
